These next few days are going to be quite hot! Some of us are unfortunate enough to have to work out in it. We make sure to get plenty of fluids and try to get the bulk of our days work done early, before, the heat sets in.
This past saturday, I, was talking to a member about a wing panel that he needed to retrieve from a crash the weekend prior. The area the wing was in is very overgrown with marshy weeds by this point in the summer in the dam basin. We talked about how hot and humid it had to of been down there that day. Some of the precautions he took, I thought, were very important and helpful in case of an emergency. I thought that with the upcoming heat wave that looks like it is going to last through the weekend, I would post some of the things he did to protect himself from the heat and humidity...if you find yourself on a rescue mission!
- If you go to the field alone, let someone at home know, or leave a note where you will be and approx time to expect you back.
- Remember light color clothing keeps you cooler. Jeans and boots protect from cuts and bug bites.
- Bring some water and cellphone if possible. Be aware of your surroundings.
It is also important, while at the field flying, to drink plenty of fluids. Water is best! Try to stay in the shade while not in the air and give yourself time to cool off. Don't forget the sunscreen!
Be safe, Fly often!
